Chestertown has been celebrating their 1774 Tea Party for years. It’s serious business. Every Memorial Day weekend the town re-enacts the pivotal event of throwing the British tea into the Chester river in protest. Originally, the tea from England was refused since it was being taxed so heavily, and American merchants could not make a living with such high tariffs. So, a grand gesture was needed, and hence the hefting of the tea into the bay.
Chestertown is the place to be on Memorial Day weekend, and this year the fabulous Budweiser Clydesdales will be part of the Colonial parade. Come in your Colonial garb and join the fun! There will be exciting events for young and old, including the parade, running races for all ages, beer and wine tasting, and, of course, the famous reenactment of the tea party itself!
Delicious food will be available all weekend, and many vendors will have booths with all types of wares. The Chester River Chorale will be singing, and you may even see Benjamin Franklin walking the streets of Chestertown. So, make yourself at home at our luxury Chestertown B&B, then prepare to turn back the clock and share in the fun of this festive Tea Party weekend!
