The 4 Best Beaches Near Chestertown, MD

Spending a day by the water is one of our favorite things to do in Chestertown. Don’t miss the opportunity to dip your toes in the water and experience some of Kent County’s best beaches!

1. Ferry Park

19 minutes from Brampton Inn

Travel down Rock Hall’s Beach Road to discover Ferry Park, one of the area’s hidden gems. During the day, take a dip at the swimming beach or seek shelter from the sun under the gazebo. There are plenty of picnic tables and barbecue stands available for a family dinner by the water. We highly recommend staying at Ferry Park until dusk, as it’s one of our favorite spots to see a sunset on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

2. Betterton Beach

20 minutes from Brampton Inn

Betterton Beach is one of the most well-known beaches along the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This 5-acre landscaped park features 700 feet of sandy shore and is the larger of the two public beaches in Kent County. Swim in the Chesapeake Bay, stroll along the boardwalk, or fish off of the municipal pier. The choice is yours!

Do you want to know the best part? The beach is located near the mouth of the Sassafras River, meaning that it has lower salinity levels than nearby beaches. Therefore, Betterton Beach is completely jellyfish-free.

After a day under the sun, enjoy a delicious meal at Barbara’s on the Bay while enjoying a view of the water.

3. Sassafras Natural Resource Management Area

20 minutes from Brampton Inn

If you travel to the picturesque banks of the Sassafras River, you’ll find the Sassafras NRMA. The area is known for its magnificent views of the river and countless outdoor recreation opportunities. While you can’t swim at the park, there are plenty of picnic areas along the river’s shore. View the site map to start planning your adventure!

For directions to the NRMA, put the Knock’s Folly Visitor Center into your GPS. The Sassafras NRMA is open from sunrise to sunset every day.

4. Conquest Beach

32 minutes from Brampton Inn

Located in Centreville, MD, Conquest Beach is a peaceful retreat along the Chester River. While the beach is technically part of a public county park, access via land is limited to reservation only. The sandy stretch of beach is a haven for boaters in the area. On the weekends, expect to see 50-100 boaters docked here for the afternoon.
