The end of May signifies many things: the unofficial start of summer, excitement about imminent graduations, beach traffic, permission to wear white pants. (That’s not really still a thing, is it??)
And of course, the end of May brings Memorial Day, a federal holiday meant to set aside time to reflect upon and honor those men and women who have given their lives while serving in the United States armed forces, or as first responders, and their families. Always the last Monday in May, the 3 day weekend gave rise to all the cookouts, barbecue blowouts, and beach pilgrimages that generally happen on the days immediately prior to Memorial Day. Seems reasonable, but surely we can all take the time to thank and remember those who are gone, so that we may be free.
THANK YOU.
We would be remiss, however, if we didn’t remind you that the last weekend in May is also the time for our Chestertown Tea Party Festival. The biggest weekend of the year for Kent County, MD, there is so much to do and see that we highly recommend printing out the schedule and studying it before heading into town! And fittingly, there is a flag raising ceremony each morning, as well as a classic Memorial Day Parade on Monday morning.
Come celebrate Memorial Day in Chestertown, MD! Give thanks to those who have served our country and enjoy some of our local activities. Then join us at our cozy Chestertown bed and breakfast.
