Chesapeake Film Festival comes to Chestertown

This Friday September 23 kicks off the 4th annual Chesapeake Film Festival…a small but impressive festival with a mission “to entertain, enrich and inspire by bringing the finest in narrative, documentary and short film to the Chesapeake Bay community.” For the last 3 years, this weekend-long event has screened films at venues in Easton, Cambridge and Wye Mills. This year, Chestertown‘s own Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theater, newly renovated, will be screening 5 of the films from the festival, including one that has a small connection to the Brampton Inn.

Band Together is a documentary about the Kent County Community Marching Band, which is getting rave reviews. The drum major, Mark Mumford, who just happens to be the clerk of court for Kent County, performs several of our small wedding ceremonies here at our Chestertown Inn. Last year, one gracious couple consented to let the local filmmaker, Kurt Kolaja, tag along and film Mark marrying them. The film delves into the lives of the folks in the band, who range in age from 4 to 94! The festival’s synopsis reads as follows:

Band Together strides along with the Kent County Community Marching Band to discover a journey of camaraderie, commitment, and community. Loud music and soft voices reveal what is good about America. Don’t believe everything you hear from the shouters. America is doing just fine thank you – just listen to those who live there.

Other films being presented include several independent films, both narrative and documentary style; as well as selections from the New York Children’s Film Festival. Also thrown in the mix are a few classics like NetworkBull Durham and The Great McGinty.

I personally love documentaries; I can’t wait to see Band Together, and NOT just to catch a glimpse of our Chestertown Bed and Breakfast on the big screen…

See you at the movies!
